101 kleine Steinkäuze werden nach der Bridges Conference Mathematic Anfang August (05. August 2022) in Helsinki freigelassen.

My puzzle shows a photo of 101 marble stones. Inspired in the pandemic to visualize a virus mutating to produce many variants, I designed odd little owls. Each painted owl is represented by a genetic code that specifies its appearance. The belly color corresponds to the ones digit, the back color to the tens digit. For example, yellow represents the number 0 and light green the number 9. If the owl has a yellow back and green belly, it's the number 09. If the owl has a green back and yellow belly, it's the number 90. In the bottom right corner there is a completely green owl: the number 99. I replaced the Arabic numerals with Greek letters to create names for 101 Steinkauz mutations. Missing puzzle pieces result in gaps in the owl family.
